Morpion produces electronic music taking in influences from Jungle, Rave, Drum & Bass, Breakbeat & IDM, but listening to it, it's more than just a retro tribute, this is thoroughly exciting and modern music with a very high production value.
Visiting Morpion's Bandcamp page you'll find an album called 'Past Life: Experimental 4 Track Recordings (1997-1999) and reading the description you'll realise that the techniques employed to create it are innovative, experimental & fascinating. This era of his musical life has clearly layed the foundations to his current music and although he may not be experimenting quite so much, the creative palette from which he draws will invariably lead to any place he chooses to take us.
2. Soft Target
5. Killin' Time
6. The Witch
'Northern Soul' provokes memories of the absolute best of 90s Drum & Bass, adds a little dash of classic rave and jungle then brings it bang up to date with a crisp modern sound & stunning production. Highly recommended.
Amazing high quality ultra limited edition hand cut 180g heavyweight clear vinyl with full colour centre labels, the first in Romeda's 3313 Series of Vinyl releases. It comes housed in a poly lined protective paper inner sleeve and in a full face white card outer with glossy release details sticker referencing early Mowax in style!
This vinyl version will also come with Morpion's companion release the 'Seed EP' on CD format with packaging to mirror the vinyl sleeve style and a download card for the digital version.
4. Breaking Shapes
As a companion release to Morpion's 'Northern Soul' this fantastic EP works beautifully, it's unmistakably cut from the same cloth, but these four tracks start to suggest slightly different leanings with a little step away from the breakbeats here and there and a little more emphasis on the synths.
Morpion's 'Seed EP' is presented in a white card fold out case which slots neatly together to the rear to hold the CD.
The Disc itself is intended to reference the vinyl with its minimal approach. To the front of the card case is a glossy sticker with album cover design and release details mirroring the design of the 'Northern Soul' Vinyl release.
